SECOND BEST

I apologise for how long it has taken me to say this. However, I could not hold out any longer, you know how hard it is for me not to speak the truth.

And the truth, the truth is you have loved me, loved me like no other. You have made me feel special, worshiped. You have put me at the highest paramount, and made it your life’s work to get to me.

You have been my cure.

You have been my air.

You have inflated my lungs with happiness with every breath I have ever taken.

You have been vigilant about me, you’ve guarded me, kept me. Me, being your own form of happiness.

These words will not do justice, but I use them anyway.

I can not even begin to describe how much I appreciate you. How much I love you, and finally how much it hurts me to say this, but I have to let you go.

You can fool the rest, but due to the fact that we are in love, I have been let in. I know I am second best. Your heart belongs to someone else. And knowing that you can love better than this has made me jealous of her. I’d rather be number one or not with you at all.

It is okay, I am sad but I am not hurt.

I know you did love me, but at the same time, knowing you settled for me is just not good enough.

So I’ll say my goodbye this way.
